Southside took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Etowah, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Southside Panthers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Etowah Blue Devils on Thursday, sneaking past 8-6. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Panthers also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.
Jalyn Allen made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. Allen was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rylann Shaw, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Mckee, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Southside now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Etowah, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3.
Looking ahead, Southside will be playing at home against Boaz at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Etowah, they will take on Pleasant Valley in a tournament on Friday. Etowah's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Pleasant Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
