League recap: Rains runs winning streak to four

3A Region II District 14 league recap: 3/20/13

Rains (12-4, 1-0) is blazing a trail this week, having won four straight games, the longest winning streak in 3A Region II District 14. The streak was extended by another two games over the past week,.

Rains outperformed the rest of the league this week, as its two total wins led the league. The Wildcats beat Eustace 11-1 and Ford 15-2.

Rains' pitching staff had a strong showing this week, allowing only five hits and one walk, both of which led the league.

The league boasted four .400 hitters over the past week. The group was paced by Beau Shelby, who collected two hits in three at bats for a .667 average.

The Wildcats' Chance Newsom led the league in strikeouts this week with six. With eight strikeouts this year so far, he ranks seventh in the league.



Rains' Kelby Gowin struck out eight Athens hitters en route to a 10-4 victory on March 12.
