Basketball Recap: Matanzas Comes Up Short

Matanzas played a tough match on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by the Fernandina Beach Pirates 58-21. Matanzas has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Savina Wells was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds for Fernandina Beach. The dominant performance also gave Wells a new career-high in assists (three). Julianna Miller was another key player, going 5 for 8 en route to 11 points and five steals.

Matanzas' defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Fernandina Beach, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-9.

Matanzas wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 61-27 loss against Menendez on the 21st. As for Fernandina Beach, they will host Fletcher at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
