Basketball Recap: Deerfield Falls Despite Big Games from Chloe Cooper and Eve Engler

Deerfield and Wauconda squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Deerfield had to settle for second. They came up short against the Wauconda Bulldogs, falling 61-41. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 427th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 130th).

Eve Engler and Chloe Cooper certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Engler posted 18 points and three blocks, while Cooper earned 12 points and five steals. Engler has been hot, having posted 16 or more points the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Shir Paz, who scored four points and seven boards.

Deerfield has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 19 of their last 22 matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-23 record this season. As for Wauconda, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 23-3.

Deerfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Wauconda, they will challenge Resurrection at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
