Basketball Recap: Shelby-Rising City Comes Up Short

Shelby-Rising City lost against Thayer Central back in February of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Shelby-Rising City Huskies took a blow against the Thayer Central Titans, falling 58-23. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 243rd, while the Titans are ranked 40th).

Despite the loss, Shelby-Rising City still got an impressive performance from Taya Pinneo, who posted 16 points. Pinneo's afternoon made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. Olivia Frederick also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

It was another big night for Paige Tietjen, who went 9-for-16 on her way to 25 points and six boards for Thayer Central. That's the most points Tietjen has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Leah Havel, who went 5-for-12 to rack up 10 points and eight rebounds.

Shelby-Rising City has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Thayer Central, their victory bumped their record up to 16-5.

Shelby-Rising City wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 52-41 defeat against East Butler on the 13th. As for Thayer Central, they have also already played their next contest, a 54-31 win against Southern on the 13th.
