Baseball Recap: Montrose Comes Up Short

Montrose extended their losing streak to six on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-6 in the process. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lakeville Falcons. The Rams were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Falcons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

Montrose saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayden Huckleberry, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Huckleberry has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

As for Lakeville, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games.

On Lakeville's side, Braden Blogg spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 15 Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gage Smith, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Clous, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Montrose will face off against Chesaning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Lakeville, they will take on Saginaw Arts & Sciences Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
