Softball Recap: North Vermillion Drops Highest Score of Season Against Attica

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask North Vermillion). They put the hurt on the Attica Red Ramblers with a sharp 19-3 victory on Saturday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Falcons with their most commanding win of the season.

Willow Campbell made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Campbell was even better at the plate, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with seven stolen bases and four runs. Those seven stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Cami Phelps was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Jumps, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

North Vermillion always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .694. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win made it two in a row for North Vermillion and bumps their season record up to 6-10. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Attica, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Vermillion will welcome Riverton Parke at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Falcons will need to watch out since the Panthers have now posted at least ten runs in their last six contests. As for Attica, they will square off against North White at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
