Preview: San Benito Greyhounds vs. Edinburg Bobcats

The San Benito Greyhounds will head out on the road to face off against the Edinburg Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Friday, it was close, but San Benito sidestepped Rio Grande City for a 31-28 win. The win made it back-to-back wins for San Benito.

San Benito's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Angelina Reyes, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kayla Rodriguez, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Edinburg waltzed into their match Friday with four straight wins but they left with five. They took down United 74-58. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

Edinburg's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kimora Fagan led the charge by scoring 30 points along with eight assists. The match was Fagan's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Carranco, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds.

San Benito has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. As for Edinburg, they pushed their record up to 20-2 with that victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.

Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: San Benito have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 34.1% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Edinburg struggles in that department as they've nailed 41.4% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

San Benito came up short against Edinburg when the teams last played back in December of 2022, falling 54-50. Can San Benito avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
