Baseball Game Preview: Sudan Hornets vs. Abernathy Antelopes

For the second straight game, Sudan will face off against Abernathy. The Hornets will challenge the Antelopes at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sudan has four straight victories, Abernathy has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Sudan's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Abernathy 16-0. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matches by seven runs or more this season.

Cal Carter and Caleb Groetken were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Carter tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Groetken kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Carter got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one double, while Groetken scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those four RBI gave Carter a new career-high.

In other batting news, Sudan got a massive performance out of Kincaid Boehning, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave Boehning a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcello King, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Sudan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.

Sudan's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Abernathy, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11.
