Football Game Preview: Newman Smith Trojans vs. Wakeland Wolverines + How To Watch

The Newman Smith Trojans will take on the Wakeland Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

On Friday, Newman Smith came up short against Creekview and fell 42-30. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Although Newman Smith took the loss, they still got scores from Maxim Mingo and Dylan Villegas.

Even if they lost, Newman Smith's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Leading the way was Gabe Haesacae with two.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Wakeland, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in October. They were the clear victors by a 35-13 margin over Sherman two weeks ago. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by 22 points or more this season.

Newman Smith better keep an eye on Braxton Cole. He was instrumental in Wakeland's win, rushing for 125 yards and two scores on only 15 carries. That's the most rushing yards Cole has posted since back in September. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Maples, who threw for 192 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 76.2% of his passes.

Wakeland's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.0 points over those games. As for Newman Smith, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.

Newman Smith was taken down by Wakeland 41-7 in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
