Baseball Game Preview: Winfield Vikings vs. Mulvane Wildcats

Winfield hasn't had much luck against Mulvane recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Vikings will head out to take on the Wildcats. Winfield has given up an average of 11.2 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Winfield is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 18th straight game on Monday. They came up short against Rose Hill, falling 11-3.

Meanwhile, Mulvane waltzed into their contest on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Spartans.

Grey Sanders tossed a big game, not allowing a single hit and allowing only one earned run while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Mulvane's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Hays Ensley, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Mulvane pushed their record up to 15-4-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Winfield, their loss dropped their record down to 0-18-2.

Winfield might still be hurting after the 9-2 defeat they got from Mulvane when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
