Softball Preview: North Wilkes Vikings vs. Alleghany Trojans

North Wilkes and Alleghany are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The North Wilkes Vikings will head out on the road to take on the Alleghany Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. North Wilkes will be strutting in after a victory while Alleghany will be coming in after a loss.

North Wilkes was handed a seven-point defeat in their previous outing, but they didn't let that bad energy affect their game against North Surry on Monday. North Wilkes came out on top in a nail-biter against North Surry and snuck past 6-4. The win was just what North Wilkes needed coming off of a 10-3 loss in their prior match.

Meanwhile, Alleghany fell victim to East Wilkes and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They wound up on the wrong side of a tough 21-0 walloping at the hands of the Cardinals. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Alleghany in their matchups with East Wilkes: they've now lost seven in a row.

Alleghany saw one different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cheyenne Turney, who went 1-for-1 with a double.

North Wilkes is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for Alleghany, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.

North Wilkes took their victory against Alleghany in their previous meeting on March 4th by a conclusive 14-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for North Wilkes since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
