Football Game Preview: Bishop LeBlond Eagles vs. Stewartsville Cardinals

The Bishop LeBlond Eagles will face off against the Stewartsville Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Stewartsville will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Bishop LeBlond extended their winning streak to four last Friday. The Eagles walked away with a 44-36 win over Lincoln. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri football rankings (they are ranked 17th, while the Cardinals are ranked 169th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

David Aberer had a dynamite game, rushing for 151 yards and three TDs on only 12 carries, while also catching one score. Those 151 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Cooper Tabor was another key player, throwing for 165 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 81% of his passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Bishop LeBlond was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 256 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 163 rushing yards in four consecutive games.

Another reason for the win was Bishop LeBlond's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. In that department, Hawkins Ideker was the leader with 3.5.

Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Stewartsville had no trouble coming through when it counted. They strolled past DeKalb with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 48-32.

Stewartsville's victory bumped their record up to 2-8. As for Bishop LeBlond, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
