Basketball Game Preview: Roosevelt Roughriders vs. Space Coast Vipers

The Roosevelt Roughriders will take on the Space Coast Vipers in a tournament on Monday. Roosevelt is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.

Roosevelt is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of District of Columbia's top teams: KIPP DC Legacy College Prep, who was ranked 12th at the time (Roosevelt was ranked fifth). Roosevelt strolled past KIPP DC Legacy College Prep with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 47-30. While the Roughriders didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Roosevelt found their leader in sophomore Alexandra Fussell, who posted 16 points. Kelis Williams was another key player, putting up nine points.

Meanwhile, Space Coast had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They came out on top against the Crimson Tide by a score of 38-31.

Space Coast's win came from a few key players Roosevelt will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was JaLayah Anderson, who put up eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla Mangum, who posted eight points.

Space Coast is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.8 points per game. As for Roosevelt, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
