Softball Recap: Polk County Slammers vs. Aquinas Monarchs

Polk County extended their losing streak to seven on Tuesday, dropping them down to 4-20. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Aquinas Monarchs. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Slammers couldn't push the score so high this time.

Polk County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mady Berggren, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Aquinas, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-13 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games.

On Aquinas' side, Faith Samek spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, Bailee Hough was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Madison Vandenberg was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Looking ahead, Polk County will face off against Pierce at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Slammers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bluejays have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. Aquinas does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
