Beardstown and Macomb are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Tigers will head out to challenge the Bombers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Illini West hit Beardstown with a six-run third inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tigers lost 14-4 to the Chargers. The Tigers' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Beardstown saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tannar Riddell, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another was Colby Desollar, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Macomb came tearing into Tuesday's match with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 9-2 win.
Langdon Lambert spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emmett Beck, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. He has become a key player for Macomb: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 10-13 otherwise. Kaden Knupp also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Macomb kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.
Macomb's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-13. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Beardstown, their loss dropped their record down to 16-6-1.
Beardstown might still be hurting after the 16-6 defeat they got from Macomb in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
