Basketball Recap: Roosevelt Comes Up Short

Roosevelt lost against Kimball back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Roosevelt Mustangs took a blow against the Kimball Knights, falling 82-49. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 290th, while the Knights are ranked 32nd).

Roosevelt lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Tyrique Swindle, who posted 14 points. He has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Jayden Phillips was another key player, putting up six points and three steals.

Kimball found their leader in sophomore Marri Wickware, who dropped a double-double with 24 points and 12 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wickware has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Lance Carr, who almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Roosevelt and nudges their season record down to 17-15. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 25-6 Carter (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 80.7% over those games). As for Kimball, the victory was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-5.

Roosevelt wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 85-78 win against Lincoln on the 11th. As for Kimball, they have also already played their next match, a 73-68 victory against Carter on the 11th.
