Kevin Brown was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over 7.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Lakeland is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-4 otherwise. Brown was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex Mautone, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Ramzi Done, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run.
Lakeland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 8.8.
Lakeland pushed their record up to 5-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Croton-Harmon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lakeland will host Greeley at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Quakers' pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so the Hornets' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
