Softball Recap: Wayne Takes a Loss

Wayne suffered their closest defeat since May 9, 2025 on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Aquinas Institute Little Irish by a score of 7-5. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Little Irish earlier this season, when they won 8-7.

Jesse Newmyer made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Savannah Celso, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Wayne now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Aquinas Institute, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-6 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Wayne will take on North Rose-Wolcott at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 11.9 runs per game this season. As for Aquinas Institute, they will challenge Finney at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Falcons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.83 runs per game on average), something the Little Irish will no doubt try to take advantage of.
