Softball Game Preview: Mulberry Grove Aces vs. Brownstown/St. Elmo Eagles

Mulberry Grove is 9-1 against Brownstown/St. Elmo since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Aces are taking a road trip to challenge the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Mulberry Grove made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Staunton, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Aces fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 3-1 on Thursday. The Aces haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Lily Johnson put in work no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Meanwhile, Brownstown/St. Elmo fell victim to Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, falling 18-0. The Eagles' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Brownstown/St. Elmo's defeat dropped their record down to 1-13. As for Mulberry Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 7-5.

Mulberry Grove took their victory against Brownstown/St. Elmo when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Aces since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
