Softball Recap: Grant Comes Up Short

Grant had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 14-6 to make it four. They lost 14-4 to the Elk Rapids Elks. If the Tigers were looking for revenge after losing 4-1 to the Elks when the teams met back in May of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Elk Rapids, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-3. The result was nothing new for the Elks, who have now won ten games by eight runs or more so far this season.

For Elk Rapids' part, Rhielynn Skrocki was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. Skrocki has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted over her last 16 matchups.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooke Fluty, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Friess, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.

Grant has already played their next contest, a 10-7 victory against Reed City on the 5th. As for Elk Rapids, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 20-0 win against Harbor Springs on the 5th.
