Softball Preview: Crater Comets vs. Churchill Lancers

Crater is 8-2 against Churchill since April of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Crater Comets will head out on the road to face off against the Churchill Lancers at 5:00 p.m. Crater will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Crater can now show off three landslide victories after their most recent match in Saturday's second game. Everything went their way against Springfield as Crater made off with a 19-2 victory. While fans of Crater might be used to big wins, the 17-run margin marked the team's biggest one yet.

Allyson Nottingham made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (she also only allowed one walk). Nottingham was even better at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Crater got a big performance out of Payton Schwab, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Ryan, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Churchill suffered a tough 14-2 loss at the hands of Eagle Point on Saturday. Churchill has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The win got Crater back to even at 4-4. As for Churchill, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.

Crater took their victory against Churchill in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 27-0. Will Crater repeat their success, or does Churchill have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
