Hudson Mills made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Indianapolis Lutheran is 8-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 7-8 otherwise. Mills was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles. That's the most RBI he has posted since May 3rd.
In other pitching news, Ryan Redding looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Masen Phelps was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Dax Lockliear was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Indianapolis Lutheran always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Greenwood Christian Academy came up short against Heritage Christian on Saturday, falling 12-5. The Cougars have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.
Landon Hurley was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Indianapolis Lutheran pushed their record up to 15-10 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Greenwood Christian Academy, they now have a losing record of 13-14.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Indianapolis Lutheran has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Greenwood Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Indianapolis Lutheran skirted past Greenwood Christian Academy 5-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Do the Saints have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
