Baseball Recap: Dr. Phillips Wins Going Away Against Ocoee

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Dr. Phillips and Ocoee meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Dr. Phillips Panthers blew past the Ocoee Knights 11-4. With that victory, the Panthers brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Ryan Pyka made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while going 2-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Dr. Phillips' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Edwin Jaimes, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. He has become a key player for Dr. Phillips: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ramses De Maio, who went 1-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Dr. Phillips kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ocoee only managed seven hits.

Dr. Phillips' record is now 5-6. As for Ocoee, they moved to 5-6 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Coming up, Dr. Phillips is taking a road trip to face off against Apopka at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dr. Phillips is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Ocoee, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Conrad Academy at 7:00 p.m. Ocoee also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 7.4 runs per game.
