Baseball Game Preview: Sussex Academy Seahawks vs. Caesar Rodney Riders

Sussex Academy is 0-3 against Caesar Rodney since April of 2022 but things could change on Thursday. The Seahawks will take on the Riders at 4:15 p.m.

Sussex Academy blew Delmarva Christian out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Monday Delmarva Christian got their revenge. The Seahawks fell just short of the Royals by a score of 8-6.

Meanwhile, Caesar Rodney had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.9 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Ravens by a score of 12-7. Caesar Rodney's win was all the more impressive since the Ravens were averaging only 3.6 runs allowed on the season.

Caesar Rodney got a great performance from Steven Donigan as he struck out 11 batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Donigan has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jadrian Sanchez was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Parenteau, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Caesar Rodney pushed their record up to 9-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Sussex Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.

Sussex Academy suffered a grim 11-3 defeat to Caesar Rodney in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Seahawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
