Baseball Recap: Vinton County Comes Up Short

Vinton County fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Athens on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs. The loss continues a trend for the Vikings in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost eight in a row.

Vinton County's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Athens, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3-1 record this season.

Vinton County will head out to challenge Alexander at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Athens, they will face off against Unioto at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 4, the Shermans 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
