Basketball Recap: Estancia Takes a Loss

Estancia was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were beaten by the Logan Longhorns 81-42. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 118th, while the Longhorns are ranked fourth).

When it comes to explaining why Estancia lost, don't look at Olavio Hernandez. Despite the final result, he posted ten points.

Leading Logan to victory were Hayden Bruhn and Devin Kotara. Bruhn went 10 of 20 en route to 24 points in addition to eight boards and three steals, while Kotara went 7 for 11 on his way to 17 points along with five assists and three steals. Bruhn's afternoon made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Mason Wallin was another key player, going 6 for 8 en route to 12 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.

Estancia's loss dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Logan, the win keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.

Estancia will square off against Raton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Raton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55 points per game this season. As for Logan, they will take on Melrose at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Logan's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matches.
