Basketball Recap: Cibola Triumphs

Cibola proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 40) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Sahuaro Cougars, sneaking past 42-40.

Jaida Bosch was nothing short of spectacular: she dropped a double-double with 22 points and ten boards. That's the most rebounds she has posted since back in December of 2024. Leona Faulks was another key player, putting up seven points and ten boards.

Cibola smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in seven consecutive games dating back to last season.

Despite the defeat, Sahuaro had strong showings from Jordynn Chavis, who went 6-for-15 to rack up 16 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, and Layla O'Rourke-Slone, who had ten points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Anissa Garcia, who scored 11 points and six rebounds.

Cibola's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Sahuaro, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Cibola wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 64-38 defeat against Pueblo on the 25th. As for Sahuaro, they have also already played their next matchup, a 49-30 victory against Queen Creek on the 25th.
