Basketball Recap: Hillary Lambert's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Rising Sun over Southwestern

Rising Sun was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 63-54 to the Southwestern Rebels. That's two games in a row now that the Shiners have lost by exactly nine points.

Rising Sun lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Hillary Lambert, who posted 14 points. Tamryn Miller was another key player, putting up 15 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Rising Sun smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Olivia Simpson went supernova for Southwestern, dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. That's the most points Simpson has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Baleigh McAfee, who earned ten points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals.

Rising Sun's loss dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Southwestern, they pushed their record up to 14-7 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rising Sun has already played their next match (against Switzerland County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Southwestern will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Austin at 7:30 p.m.
