Basketball Game Preview: Friona Chieftans vs. Idalou Wildcats

The Friona Chieftans are taking a road trip to square off against the Idalou Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Friona is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.

Last Friday, Friona lost to Littlefield at home by a 53-37 margin. While losing is never fun, the Chieftans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1508th, while the Wildcats are ranked 330th).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Idalou, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 69-20 win over Muleshoe. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Wildcats have posted since December 17, 2024.

Idalou is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.9 points per game. As for Friona, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-18.

Friona was taken down by Idalou 83-10 in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. Can Friona avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
