Baseball Game Preview: King Mustangs vs. Flour Bluff Hornets

The King Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Flour Bluff Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. King hasn't scored more than a single run for three games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.

King came into this matchup off a tough 17-run defeat on Saturday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Alice by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Mustangs have suffered since March 1st.

Marco Barrera spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Flour Bluff was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They fell just short of Gregory-Portland by a score of 3-2. The defeat was just more heartbreak for the Hornets who fell 4-2 when the teams previously met back in April of 2024.

Flour Bluff saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colten Englert, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

King's loss dropped their record down to 5-13-1. As for Flour Bluff, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9-2.

King was able to grind out a solid win over Flour Bluff in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 5-2. Does King have another victory up their sleeve, or will Flour Bluff turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
