Basketball Recap: Concordia Falls Despite Big Games from Charis Hughes and Emersyn Spurgeon

On Wednesday, the Concordia Mustangs came up short against the Malcolm Clippers and fell 62-51.

Emersyn Spurgeon and Charis Hughes certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Spurgeon posted 12 points, while Hughes earned 13 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Eliza Secrest, who had eight points.

Even though they lost, Concordia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive matches.

Malcolm found their leader in freshman Payton Dolliver, who dropped a double-double with 36 points and 11 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dolliver has scored all season. Kenna Wilcox was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Concordia has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-14 record this season. Malcolm has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-10 record this season.

Concordia does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Malcolm, they have already played their next matchup, a 46-35 win against Fort Calhoun on the 20th.
