Baseball Game Preview: Highland Rams vs. Parry McCluer Fighting Blues

Highland hasn't had much luck against Parry McCluer recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Rams will head out to square off against the Fighting Blues at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Highland has three straight wins, Parry McCluer has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Tuesday, Highland made easy work of Eastern Montgomery and carried off an 8-1 victory. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by seven runs or more this season.

John Wagner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Highland is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-4 otherwise. Wagner was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played.

In other batting news, Zach Armstrong was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Evan Kimble, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Parry McCluer's offense. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Grace Christian on Thursday. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Fighting Blues' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

The win got Highland back to even at 5-5. As for Parry McCluer, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.

Highland suffered a grim 18-3 defeat to Parry McCluer in their previous matchup on April 1st. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
