Baseball Game Preview: Questa Wildcats vs. Penasco Panthers

For the second straight game, Questa will face off against Penasco. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Panthers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Questa is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season.

Questa took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Penasco a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won nine matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

Ricardo Leon Jr. was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over 4.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Questa is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-12 otherwise. Leon Jr. was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Micah Gonzales, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. He has become a key player for Questa: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 6-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was James Garcia, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Questa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They are 9-4 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Penasco dropped their record down to 4-19 with the loss, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Questa, their victory bumped their record up to 9-13.

Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Questa has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .558. However, it's not like Penasco struggles in that department as they've averaged .502. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
