Softball Recap: Jay Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Jay can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They came out on top against the Winn Mavericks by a score of 7-2. This was a revenge game for the Mustangs: when they faced off against the Mavericks back in March, they had to take a 5-1 defeat.

Esperanza Amezquita spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jennifer Galindo, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Zareth Gomez, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.

Jay's victory bumped their record up to 6-15. As for Winn, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-19 record this season.

Jay will challenge Southwest Legacy at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Mustangs are facing the Titans at the right time seeing as the Titans are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Winn, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Southside at 2:00 p.m.
