Baseball Recap: Calhoun Takes a Loss

Calhoun fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Columbia Prep on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lions by a score of 5-4. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Lions earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

Brian Stone was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Quentin Ruffin was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

Calhoun's record is now 14-5-1. As for Columbia Prep, they pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Calhoun is set to face off against their familiar foe Packer Collegiate Institute at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Columbia Prep will take on rival Riverdale Country at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
