Basketball Recap: Paw Paw Comes Up Short

Paw Paw was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 46-45 heartbreaker at the hands of the Berkeley Springs Indians. The Pirates were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Indians earlier this season, when they won 34-24.

Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Shayla Tanouye, who posted 18 points and seven steals. Tanouye has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Kidwell, who put up 13 points and eight boards.

Paw Paw's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Berkeley Springs, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-15.

Paw Paw and Berkeley Springs should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps West Virginia Rankings. Paw Paw will take on Hancock at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday up 195 places (93 vs. 288). Meanwhile, Berkeley Springs (ranked 115th) will meet Southern Fulton (ranked 450th) at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
