Softball Recap: Wheaton North Takes a Loss

Wheaton North extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 17-5 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the St. Charles East Fighting Saints. The Falcons were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Fighting Saints earlier this season, when they won 4-1.

Hannah Wulf was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

As for St. Charles East, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

On St. Charles East's side, Kyli Dunn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits.

On the hitting side, St. Charles East secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Lexi Majkszak, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Wheaton North will take on rival Wheaton-Warrenville South at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Falcons 3.3, the Tigers 3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, St. Charles East is set to square off against their familiar foe Lake Park at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
