Preview: Wisner-Pilger Gators vs. Stanton Mustangs
Wisner-Pilger has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. Having just played yesterday, they will jump right back in to play the Stanton Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nebraska (Wisner-Pilger is ranked 151st, while Stanton is ranked 135th).
On Thursday, Wisner-Pilger came up short against North Bend Central and fell 49-39. Wisner-Pilger has struggled against North Bend Central recently, as their matchup on Thursday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Stanton fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Twin River on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Titans 60-55. Stanton has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite their defeat, Stanton saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Skyler Siebrandt, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and four blocks, was perhaps the best of all. Siebrandt hasn't dropped below two blocks for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelby Pohlman, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Wisner-Pilger dropped their record down to 6-11 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Stanton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season.
Wisner-Pilger might still be hurting after the 61-41 defeat they got from Stanton in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can Wisner-Pilger avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
