Football Recap: La Vega Comes Up Short

If La Vega was feeling good fresh off their 38-16 takedown of Brownwood last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pirates were dealt a 64-28 loss at the hands of the Stephenville Yellow Jackets/Honeybees on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 78th, while the Yellow Jackets/Honeybees are ranked 20th).

Kourtney Parr and Jabarie Thornton certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Parr threw for 373 yards and four touchdowns while completing 71.8% of his passes, while Thornton picked up 219 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. With that strong performance, Thornton is now averaging an impressive 121.5 receiving yards per game.

La Vega's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Stephenville, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

La Vega will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Gatesville at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th. The Hornets' defense has only allowed 9.8 points per game this season, so the Pirates' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Stephenville, they have already played their next contest, a 28-12 win against Ruston on the 3rd.
