Baseball Recap: UIC College Prep Comes Up Short

UIC College Prep dropped down to 5-3 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Rauner Wildcats, falling 18-6. The Firecats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

As for Rauner, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-3. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Rauner's part, Giovanni Valadez made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Valadez was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two doubles and two RBI. He also put up two hits, which were his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carlo Alvarado, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Diego Fernandez, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. UIC College Prep will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Kennedy at 5:00 p.m. on the 18th. As for Rauner, they will take on Goode STEM Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
