Basketball Game Preview: Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls vs. Hobbs Eagles

Carlsbad is 1-9 against Hobbs since February of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls will host the Hobbs Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Carlsbad is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Roswell, who was ranked 18th at the time (Carlsbad was ranked 15th). Carlsbad walked away with a 43-32 win over Roswell on Friday.

Meanwhile, Hobbs came tearing into Friday's contest with 20 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 42.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Wildcats 61-19. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 33-9.

Hobbs pushed their record up to 21-1 with the victory, which was their 14th straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.5 points per game. As for Carlsbad, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Carlsbad took a serious blow against Hobbs in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, falling 57-11. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Carlsbad was down 39-0.
