Colby gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Goodland Cowboys with a sharp 11-1 victory. The Eagles have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cowboys, too.

Kellen Burvee spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on seven hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Max Kersenbrock, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Foss, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Colby beat Goodland by a score of 4-1 later that day.
