Recap: The Heights vs. DeMatha Stags
This season hasn't been kind to The Heights, who are still winless after their 12th match. They were beaten by DeMatha 106-67 on Wednesday. The Heights has not had much luck with DeMatha recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
DeMatha's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Malcolm Thomas led the charge by scoring 21 points along with seven rebounds. The matchup was Thomas' fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Derek (Beau) Daniels, who scored 19 points.
The Heights bumped their record down to 0-12 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for DeMatha, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. The Heights will take on St. John's at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. St. John's presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than The Heights in their respective states (St. John's is ranked sixth in District of Columbia, while The Heights is ranked 216th in Maryland). As for DeMatha, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Bishop Ireton at 7:30 p.m. Bishop Ireton is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
