Softball Recap: Ness City Comes Up Short

Ness City extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-7 in the process. They came up short against Ellinwood, falling 17-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Ness City of the 16-12 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Ellinwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games.

For Ellinwood's part, Bennett Jacobs was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Jacobs has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shyria Quintana, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Kyndal Moore was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

While Ness City had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
