Baseball Game Preview: Evergreen Valley Cougars vs. Gilroy Mustangs

The Evergreen Valley Cougars will head out to challenge the Gilroy Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Saturday just wasn't the day for Evergreen Valley's offense. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Wilcox on Saturday. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Cougars' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Gilroy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Live Oak 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mustangs have posted against the Acorns since March 1, 2019.

The team relied heavily on Brennan Neander, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jared Nelson, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Gilroy's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-15. As for Evergreen Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 10-13.

Evergreen Valley took their win against Gilroy when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
