Softball Game Preview: Sun Valley Vanguards vs. Bayard Rustin Golden Knights

Sun Valley hasn't had much luck against Bayard Rustin recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Vanguards are taking a road trip to take on the Golden Knights at 3:45 p.m.

Sun Valley is headed into Monday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 10-0 to Avon Grove, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Meanwhile, Bayard Rustin came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Whippets. That's two games straight that the Golden Knights have won by exactly two runs.

Ashley Falcone made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Falcone wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sarah Wood, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Bayard Rustin pushed their record up to 11-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Sun Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
