Basketball Recap: Rylee May's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cripple Creek-Victor over Creede

Cripple Creek-Victor played a tough contest on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 48-26 to the Creede Miners. The defeat continues a trend for the Pioneers in their matchups with the Miners: they've now lost three in a row.

Several Pioneers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Rylee May, who posted eight points and five steals. May is becoming a predictor of Cripple Creek-Victor's success: when she posts at least three steals the team is 2-1 (and 3-12 when she doesn't).

Leading Creede to victory were Lila Fairchild and Angel Edmonds. Fairchild had 24 points along with seven rebounds and six steals, while Edmonds dropped a double-double with 11 points and 13 boards. Fairchild has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 27 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Anderson, who put up four points and five steals.

Cripple Creek-Victor's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Creede, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-8.

Coming up, Cripple Creek-Victor will be playing in front of their home fans against Fountain Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Creede, they have already played their next game, a 42-38 victory against Centennial on the 18th.
