Softball Recap: Benet Academy Triumphs

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Saturday as neither Benet Academy nor Marian Catholic made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Redwings sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Spartans. The Redwings haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Noel Klody spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gianna Cunningham, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

The victory got Benet Academy back to even at 14-14. As for Marian Catholic, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-15 record this season.

Benet Academy will have a chance to go back-to-back against Marian Catholic: the pair will be back at it again later today.
