Poth is 6-1 against Luling since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Pirates will host the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Poth is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Last Friday, Poth was able to grind out a solid win over Stockdale, taking the game 7-3.
Austin Simmons spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Braden Arruda, who scored a run while going 3-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Major Luna, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Luling narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Nixon-Smiley 3-1.
Kade Samuelson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Luling is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-14 otherwise. Samuelson was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he hit this season.
In other batting news, Kase Conley was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Christian Rodriguez also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Poth's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-5. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Luling, their win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-15.
Luling's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Poth hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. It's a different story for Luling, though, as they've only averaged .148. Will they be able to contain Poth's hitters?
Poth took their victory against Luling in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 15-2 score. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
